Welcome to KristinRooke.com. As you might have guessed, I’m Kristin Rooke.
So, Who Am I?
I’m a 30-something year old living in Denver who’s passionate about fitness, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle habits.
I’m enamored by minimalism, and think that our society has done a good job of overcomplicating things that should be very simple.
How you live, how you eat, and how you exercise to be lean, strong, and healthy shouldn’t be complicated. But it is. Especially when you work a full-time job and have work, family, and social obligations.
I want to help fix that problem.
How Did I Get Into Health & Fitness?
Here’s the short story:
Since childhood, I’ve always been active. With that has come a strong sense of intrinsic reward from playing sports and exercising. I grew up doing just about every sport, and later in my life gravitated more towards a handful of activities.
The current loves of my fitness life are running, biking, hiking, skiing, and yoga. But I love being active in just about any way, and thrive on trying new things.
On the nutrition side, my interest in health and nutrition started in High School. That’s where I learned that food has the power to fuel you to greatness (or lead you to disease). And I wanted to learn how to unlock the secrets of its potential.
So in college, I studied Sociology and Exercise Science. I became a NASM certified personal trainer and started working as a personal trainer and fitness instructor at a few gyms in the Santa Barbara area.
That’s how my fitness career began. In all, I worked in the fitness industry for about 8 years.
Why Did I Stop Working In The Fitness Industry?
After a handful of years working as a personal trainer, I realized that being immersed in the fitness industry was causing me to lose touch with my love of movement and creating body image issues. As a personal trainer, I felt like I had to workout in certain ways to be legitimate, and I felt like I had to look a certain way to be taken seriously.
All of the aesthetic pressure that I felt as a personal trainer ultimately made me stressed, unhappy, and insecure. That’s why I decided to pivot out of fitness and into tech where I could utilize more of my creative and analytical skills. And health and exercise became things I did for me.
Being challenged creatively and intellectually at work, and being able to challenge my body physically and mentally outside of my job, has created a beautiful sense of balance in my life.
Although I don’t currently work as a personal trainer, being healthy and active is still a major priority in my life. I pay attention to what I eat, I’m active in some way every day, and I focus on having a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
What Do I Do Now?
Currently, I work as an Account Manager at FareHarbor, a tech company in the travel & activity industry. My role involves helping travel and activity companies grow their online businesses. This entails analyzing websites for their ease of navigation and booking flow, and tracking their metrics using Google Analytics, MixPanel, and Tableau.
I really enjoy my job — helping companies increase their online discoverability and conversion rate. And I love having health and fitness as my passion project.
